Immigration

I went to the doctor this morning. He wasn’t born in Australia. He gave me a prescription for my Asthma. I went to the chemist to get the prescription filled, the pharmacist wasn’t born in Australia.

I worked yesterday (Sunday), I work in a government building. The cleaners came through during my shift, all but one was not born in Australia.

I’m going to have Thai food for dinner tonight. The owners of my local Thai restaurant were not born in Australia.

Immigration is vital for a healthy, thriving, diverse society. We need immigrants. We need doctors, nurses, emergency services workers, cleaners, scientists, researchers, teachers, cafe & restaurant owners, hospital orderlies, and wait staff, many of whom were not born in this country. They are not “stealing jobs”, they are filling vital roles that would otherwise go unfilled.

My country is not a perfect country, but the thriving society that we have was built on the back of immigration.

If you don’t agree with me ask yourself, is it that you love your country, or is it just bigotry?

Michael Cunliffe sprouted from an alien seed pod rumoured to have been scattered in the Scottish Highlands by the sons of the notorious Ragnar Lothbrok around a thousand years ago. At an unknown point in time he found himself transported by some little-known form of alien technology to the strange lands of Far North Queensland, Australia. Later in life he became a hippie, grew his hair long, drank schooners of ice-cold beer and listened to articulate neo-Grunge Rock artists. Now he enjoys peace and quiet. And he writes poetry.
